Distinction for Tiago Apolonia and Zhenqi Barthel

20.12.2007 16:28 - A special honour was granted to Tiago Apolonia (POR) and Zhenqi Barthel (GER). Both players, who play in the German Bundesliga, were nominated for the European team who was confronted to the National Teams of China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Korea for the evaluation of the Olympic Game System.

This tournament took place in Beijing on December 18th and 19th 2007, where the Olympic Games 2008 will take place.

Among the men players, the Portuguese National player Apolonia was on the side of TIBHAR Superstar Vladimir Samsonov. After loosing in semi-finals against Korea, the European selected team managed for a drum beat to reach the 3rd place against Hong Kong.

Although the pair Samsonov / Apolonia lost the double, Apolonia brought Europe to 3:2 by beating Hong Kong Star Ko-Lai Chak with 1:0 in leading position and Vladimir Samsonov with a score of 3:1 against Tang Peng, managed to bring the overall score for Europe to 3:2.

The European Women team faced the top favourite China and Singapore with loosing positions. It is nevertheless pleasant that the German National Player Zhenqi Barthel was able to bring the only victory for the European Team. She beat Sun Bei Bei from Singapore with 3:1.
