DTTB Final4 2009: Apolonia in top form!

After having beat a few weeks ago the world-ranking nr. 5, Wang Liqin, several times World Champion, Tiago managed to force Timo Boll, the current world-ranking nr. 4, into the decisive set.
The semi-finals were the witness of Tiago's great shape. In the finals, Germany's number 1, Timo Boll, scarcely managed to turn the match to his advantage, thanks to his experience.
Tiago Apolonia's successes are documented by his world ranking positions. 2005: nr. 234, 2006: 169, 2007: 137, 2008 he belonged for the first time to the Top 100 in the world. At the end of 2008 he was nr. 92 and during 2009 he reached nr 57.
Tiago will not forget this "English Open" that fast: neither will the Chinese Superstar and World Champion Wang Liqin!
In a spectacular game at highest level the 23-year old Portuguese managed to win 4 to 3 against China's monument W. Liqin.
For Tiago this was so far the most important event in his life. "I beat my idol. Wang Liqin is one of the best table tennis players of all times. He won 3 world cups and gathererd an undefinite number of world champion titles. This represents the highlight of my life, so far" so Tiago Apolonia.
